The vertical lines prominent in this rug, resulting from the Navajo “raised outline” weaving technique, make the colors and “flower” shapes of this design darken or lighten or change altogether when viewed from different angles. This detail view shows the rich and varying effects of the hand-painted blue-green, red, and gold wool wefts,  as well as the silk wefts inlaid in the hearts of the flowers to catch the light.
